about

Does anyone remember the film Moby Dick having a sound score? I don't believe it had much of any. Music yes, but no whale sounds. I believe that The Great White Whale sounded something like this track... When you watch the film, the 1956 version with Gregory Peck please, just put this song on when Moby Dick rises from the water and executes his terrible wrath on those who have haunted him across the Seven Seas. Maybe captain Ahab had better not chase this friendly but very big force of Nature. Was losing his leg not enough of a warning already?

After the recording I needed to decide how to produce it. This time I wanted the breathing and clacking tongue noises out of the way, so I cut those out very carefully. Overlooked some breaths, but ok, after I put in the echoes, it's impossible to edit them out anymore. So I listened and well, it was obvious: typically a whale can make that long continuous sounds without breathing and then the atmosphere emanating from the song like underwater echoey sounds. This is how I made the connection with the movie Moby Dick.
