about

In the Tickler series it's "Throattickler" this time. Recorded solo, a capella in my living room so while I got rid of a lot of noise the acoustics could really do with some improvement in the processing and so, I invoked a virtual cathedral in the edit.

Producing the low fundamental note continuously is not easy for me to sustain and it helps to plan my singing in the morning, before breakfast. The reason for aiming for a low fundamental note is that, the lower the fundamental, the more overtones can be produced. Also, a low steady singing voice can be very subtle, like a song in itself already without the overtones. This is why I sometimes call my songs, "counterpoint overtones". I am prone to the natural tendency to gradually lower the voice even further and the volume may go down. I can make up for it by now and then raising the fundamental slightly, sometimes as little as by a microtone. At some point I really push the boundaries, resulting in an almost, but not quite, collapsing fundamental note. The low bourdon/drone is very soothing and relaxing as far as I'm concerned. In singing and listening both. The human voice is a beautiful and very complex instrument.

The first instrument of man is the voice. The first amplifier, a cave. For a caveman, there is no middle of the road.
