about

This overtone song is about the process of mourning.
When I sing I usually improvise but often with a certain direction in my mind to make sure I do not get stuck in a rut. My intention was to make this song especially about the vowel O in all it's facets. An "Ode to O" so to speak. But as can happen in a creative process, it turned into something else. A haunting A crept into my voice and meanwhile I know better than to try and turn it forcefully back to O. The subconscious was trying to tell me something. But it was not until I started editing that I realised how confronting the song felt to me. These are the stages of mourning. Disbelief, Shock, Grief and finally Acceptance. Does it sound odd that even these emotions carry their own beauty?

The "O" and "A" sounds in the song are obviously very diverse. Emotions are also very divergent. This is one of the reasons why a song is such a good way to express and digest emotions.....
