about

The place where I work has several companies under it's roof and from time to time there is a new one that reorganizes the allotted space. This is a place where immigrants will learn practical skills like painting and woodworking. But it's is still completely empty and I noticed the wonderful acoustics in the enclosed space. This is a unique opportunity to practice my overtone skills. Come Friday afternoon, everybody has gone home, I'm also done building some wheels for our recumbent trikes and velomobiles. Only some workersleft in the office and all the machines are shut down. This is as quiet as it gets in this large industrial building. Here is my chance, but what do you know, it's raining and you can hear the drops falling on the metal of the buildings' cladding. Nothing is going to stop me, so I go ahead, put down my recording device and let my voice bounce off the walls, echoing, hollow, perfect for bringing out the higher overtones more clearly and suppressing the basic droning of my vocal chords.
A track needs a title and why not call it "working conditions" as this is the place where I work. Nah, too dull a title, it will be "Dworkin conditions" referring to one of my favourite fantasy writers. Dworkin.... Amber..... Roger Zelazny.
In this song, I explore the more subtle nuances from overtone singing European style. Trying to bring about a most beautiful sound with only the help of the natural acoustics of the building. Instead of trying to force a known direction, I keep listening very carefully what sound comes forward. Only satisfied when mystified.
